Family

My main interview subjects are my mother, uncles, aunt and grandmother (though I’ll also be speaking to people who knew them in the labour camps, refugee camps and when they first came to Canada). To avoid confusion, I’ll explain their Khmer titles and list their names in order of birth, so you know who I’m referring to.

Titles
Mak Yea: Grandmother
Om: Uncle or Aunt who is older than your parent
Pu: Uncle who is younger than your parent
Mieng: Aunt who is younger than your parent

My Family
Mak Yea
Om Savann
Om Saveth
Om Savath (who passed away in 2007, and is dearly missed)
Chantha (my mom)
Pu Savuth
Pu Vibol
Mieng Bopha
